Miguel Olea is Managing Director at Colony Capital, Inc. and Managing Partner of Colony LatAm Partners. Mr. Olea was integral in the structuring and integration of Colony LatAm Partners, which was established through Colony’s acquisition of the Latin American team that previously managed the Abraaj LatAm private equity funds. Mr. Olea is Chairman of the Board on Emerging Energy, Docuformas and Acritus and is also a Board Member on Casaideas.
Mr. Olea began his career in the Mexican public sector. Mr. Olea’s experience includes positions such as Director of International Finance at Mexico’s Ministry of Finance, Minister Counselor responsible for the Economic Section of the Mexican Embassy to the United States (1982) and Chief of Staff for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, where he was appointed Ambassador by President Miguel de la Madrid.
Prior to joining the Colony Capital business, Mr. Olea served as one of the managing partners of OPCAP I (1991-2001), a Mexican private equity fund that was listed on the stock exchange. Mr. Olea began working for Aureos Latin America Fund since its inception in 2007 and was Managing Partner for the Latin America Region. Aureos was acquired by The Abraaj Group in 2012 where he became a Partner and was later promoted to Regional Head Latin America in 2013.
Mr. Olea holds a BSc in mechanical and electrical engineering from the Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City, an MSc in engineering management and an MSc in operations research from Stanford University.
